The gas analysis method used on the Jupiter-helium-interferometer, the calibration of the instrument, and the optical properties of the gases involved in the measurement were studied. A simulation and calibration set up was erected for laboratory tests. The pressure and temperature sensors of the interferometer were calibrated. The time evolution during the descent into the Jupiter atmosphere was for all conditions relevant to the interferometer; during this simulation the behavior of the instrument was determined.
