Stratospheric X-ray emulsion chamber measurements of interactions between iron nuclei and primary cosmic-ray nucleons and nuclei were performed in order to investigate effects connected with quantum chromodynamics. Preliminary results are presented from the processing of event 3101, with an anomalously high multiplicity of secondary charged particles (683). If the primary nucleus in this event is assumed to be an alpha particle, the value of energy density here is higher than that at which phase transition occurs with the formation of a quark-gluon plasma.
