This heterodyne spectrometer is operative in the Cassegrain focus of astronomical telescopes with apertures larger than 100 cm. The resolution (λ/Δλ) can be varied between 6×105 and 6×106. The sensitivity of the photomixer approaches the quantum noise limit. Laboratory measurements and selected astronomical measurements from Mars and Venus are presented.
