An analysis of the global long-period pulsation recorded on July 17, 1982 by conjugate stations at Halley Bay and St Anthony is presented. The results indicate that the conjugate stations may have been situated some distance from the center of the disturbance. The drop in solar wind velocity and switching of Bz during the event suggest the possibility of a significant expansion of the magnetosphere, with resultant rarefaction waves. This global disturbance may have been driven by large changes in solar wind conditions.
