GRBs are one of the few tracers of material at very high redshift available to us. In April 2009 a Gamma Ray Burst was detected at z=8.26+/-0.10, a mere 625 Myr after the Big Bang. The existence of such a burst implies that not only was baryonic material present in this region at these very early times, but also that it was being actively processed into massive stars. Indeed, the characteristics of the burst and particularly its relatively short duration suggest a Population II rather than Pop III progenitor, suggesting that star formation in this region had already been processing material for some time before the burst. This field is undergoing extensive follow-up, but at these very high redshifts, detection of galaxies in the near-infrared is going to be challenging at best. In this speculative proposal, we aim to investigate the environs of the GRB host galaxy, searching for evidence of molecular gas as traced by CO (3-2) emission.
