Realistic self-consistent models of galaxies can be obtained by specifying the velocity field and solving the Euler equation semi-analytically. The velocity potential Ψ is introduced as the main hydrodynamic function which determines the physical quantities such as the velocity ěc{ν }, the density ρ, the vorticity ěc{ζ }, and the pressure p. The hydrodynamic equation is expressed in terms of the velocity potential Ψ, in order to study self gravitating equilibrium configurations parameterized by suitable velocity fields.
