Line Broadening:Voigt Profiles

All derivations of the speed dependence of the Voigt profile are found to be special cases of a general Voigt profile, which can be expressed in terms of very general width and shift functions depending on the perturber mass and the relative speed of the perturber and radiator. The asymptotic behavior of the general Voigt profile is rigorously derived and specific cases are presented. The profile is found to provide asymptotic limits consistent with curve-of-growth requirements for specified width and shift functions.
