The authors utilize all of the existing information on the correlation between the (nonthermal) radio continuum and FIR emission from galaxies with the aim to shed more light on this relationship and its physical origin. They briefly summarize the observational evidence, with emphasis on the global (integrated) emission as given in paper I. The correlation is discussed with emphasis on the implications of the correspondence for star formation and SN rates in galaxies, in particular in view of the apparent discrepancy between deduced SN rates and the nonthermal content of galaxies.
