The stress field in the earth's crust as inferred from satellite gravity
data causes crustal deformation and seismotectonic block movements in
central Europe. The satellite-determined stresses in the crust of
central Europe are consistent with earthquake focal mechanisms,
joint-orientation and in situ stress measurements.
