A relatively simple Dirac-Flock-Slater atomic-structure approach and associated computer programs have been developed for the purpose of rapidly providing the atomic-structure results required for large-scale, rapid calculations of the atomic data for highly charged ions needed for the modeling of high-temperature plasmas such as those used in X-ray laser research. A more rapid quasi-relativistic approximation to this approach is also described. Results for neonlike and nickellike ions using this method are compared with those from more elaborate programs, and good agreement is obtained.
