The decay constant for spontaneous fission of natural uranium has been
determined by accumulating fission fragment tracks in Lexan plastic held
adjacent to uranium metal for one year. The value, 6.8 ± 0.6. 10
-17 yr -1 , is consistent with values most commonly used in fission
track dating.
