Are the thin disk and thick disk stellar populations ancestral or merely neighbors by chance? We seek to help answer this fundamental question through a large study of long-lived late G dwarfs situated in three key directions: b=+47°, and ℓ=3°, 168°, and 278°. Proper motions have been measured for all stars over 7 to 21 square degrees down to V=18 mag. Based on new Schmidt/CCD photometry, we have selected targets for high-resolution but low-S/N echelle spectroscopy. From the resultant metallicities and space velocities, we will study the ``smoothness" of the metallicity vs. kinematics relations, as well as the existence or lack of metallicity gradients.
