FOC f/96 exposures will be taken in B and V, 1 hr each, in 3 fields near the center of NGC 6397. The aim is to determine a faint color-magnitude array, as well as a faint luminosity function and the relative density distribution of faint stars of different magnitudes. This program should reach the lower termination of the main sequence and a large part of the white dwarf sequence. Parallel exposures with WFPC2 will all be pointed at the same field. With 2 hr in V and 4 hr in I, this should reach the faintest stars ever observed in a globular cluster.
