An initial quantitative investigation is conducted of the hypothesis that a small crustal field whose origin lies in thermal remanent magnetization has existed since that magnetization was acquired during a period of Martian history when a core dynamo field was present. Expected field magnitudes above the Tharsis region, assuming a source region that consists of uniformly magnetized volcamic constructs.
