Significant correlations of the P3 periods of 17 pulsars exhibiting the subpulse drift with pulsar magnetic fields and ages have been found. It is shown that the correlation between P3, and a dipole component of the pulsar surface magnetic field may be accommodated in the polar cap model of Ruderman and Sutherland, whereas the correlation of P3 with pulsar characteristic age seems to be much more difficult to explain.
