From a sample of 7 MSFC vector magnetograms of active regions and 17 Yohkoh SXT soft X-ray images of these active regions, we have found that the total X-ray brightness of an entire active region is correlated with the total length of neutral lines on which the magnetic field is both strong (>250 G) and strongly sheared (shear angle >75(deg) ) in the same active region. This correlation, if not fortuitous, is additional evidence of the importance of the presence of strong-shear strong-field neutral lines to strong coronal heating in active regions. The previous evidence was from our recent work (D.A. Falconer R.L. Moore, J.G. Porter, G.A. Gary, and T. Shimizu, 1997, Ap.J. 480 in press) where we showed that persistently bright coronal X-ray features in active regions almost always (96%) had footpoints rooted near (12 arcsec) a neutral line with strong magnetic field (>150G), and most of these neutral lines (80%) had shear greater than 45(deg) . This newest work has been submitted as a letter to Solar Physics.
