The results of X-ray diffraction analysis of small spherical grains previously found in the meteorites Zagami and Murchison are compared with the results of microprobe studies. X-ray films of a sphere from Murchison and a sphere from Zagami are shown and the X-ray diffraction pattern results for the Murchison sphere are given. The latter fit reasonably well with those expected from (Ca, RE)F2 and CaS. The results for the two grains differ considerably. The microprobe analysis indicates the absence of both Ca and S from the spheres and the presence of Ce, La, Nd, Gd, and Fe. The microprobe results for the two grains are similar. It is concluded that the preliminary interpretation of the X-ray results may be incorrect.
