An analysis is conducted for Griffith's (1974) consideration of the motion of an (n + 1)th body with respect to the mass center of the remaining bodies, which has been designated a 'general retention' theorem. It is found that the theorem's derivation can be improved, yielding a modified result. It is also noted that there are two sign errors in Griffith's paper.
