We have conducted an empirical study of bright point phenomena that occur in the solar upper transition region atmosphere, for which we have dubbed these structures as upper transition region bright points, or UBPs. A theoretical model of the generation and characteristics of UBPs is successfully used to match measured quantities, some of which include UBP surface density, sizes, and radiative output. The observables are measured by using archived SOHO full- disk sun images that span an effective temperature range between 0.1 MK to 1.0 MK. We found that the measured surface density of UBPs ranged from 5.07 × 10 - 4 Mm -2 to 1.92×10 -3 Mm -2 ; the mean sizes ranged from 9.36 Mm to 12.21 Mm; and in addition, UBPs contributed 8% and 3% of the UTR quiet Sun and coronal hole emission respectively at 0.65 MK. At 0.20 MK the UBPs contributed 15% and 10% of the quiet Sun and coronal hole emission respectively.
