By undertaking a comprehensive investigation into the Central European conductivity anomaly a connection was found to exist between the formation mechanism of a syncline, anomalies of the geomagnetic variations up to periods of one day, secular variation of the geomagnetic main field and the heat flux. According to these results the conductivity anomaly is based on a subcrustal melting-zone and an anomaly of the resistivity due to temperature distribution, on both of which are superposed the geological structure of the North German/Polish Lowland, filled with well-conducting sediments. A similar connection has been found for the area of Japan.
