A potential way of distinguishing between different coronal heating mechanisms is by either broadening or Doppler shifts in spectra lines. Parameterizations of coronal heating models in terms of their dynamical signature are developed and it is shown that each of reconnection (or nanoflares), field aligned current dissipation, and Alfven waves have different signal to limb variations. If coronal heating proceeds by a sequence of small energy releases, predictions are made of the resolution needed to distinguish such a mechanisms from Alfen wave heating. SOHO (Solar and Heliospheric Observatory) can provide great advances in such an analysis, and the applications of its results to SUMER (Solar Ultraviolet Measurement of Emitted Radiation) and CDS (Coronal Diagnostic Spectrometer).
