The equations of motion for the global temporal evolution of a curved loop with a twisted magnetic field are presented. Such loops are shown to be linearly unstable when the ratio of their height to footpoint separation is too small, and will tend to rise in the corona to form a more complete part of the arc of a circle. It is shown that the oscillation periods of these loops differ significantly from that determined by simple standing Alfven waves. This emphasizes the importance of using realistic loop models when determining coronal magnetic fields from coronal oscillation data. When such a curved loop undergoes an injection of azimuthal flux, it rises in the corona and oscillates about a new equilibrium. The possible detection of these properties using instruments on SOHO (Solar and Heliospheric Observatory) is discussed.
