The basic concepts and compuational techniques used in the
maximum-entropy method of spectral analysis are discussed. The accuracy
and resolving power of three spectral methods are illustrated with a
synthetic signal. The geophysical applications of these methods to
geomagnetic micropulsations and the Zurich sunspot number are presented.
