A comparison of Doppler and spaced antenna radar techniques for the measurement of turbulent energy dissipation rates is presented in order to infer implications about spaced antenna studies. It is found that while there is substantial geophysical scatter in the present data, the measurements of the energy dissipation rates by the spaced antenna method do not overestimate the Doppler radar data substantially. Any differences between the two measurements are generally in the nature of increased scatter, not in the form of consistently larger spaced antenna values. The spaced antenna method is found to be useful for obtaining both wind and energy dissipation rates.
