A telescope now coming on-line in Arizona embodies many new technologies. It is the 3.5-m WIYN Telescope (a project of the WIsconsin, Indiana, and Yale universities, and the National Optical Astronomy Observatories) perched on the southwest escarpment of Kitt Peak. At the northern end of the same ridge stands the epitome of traditional elegance in dome architecture, the shelter for the 3.8-m Nicholas U. Marshall Reflector Telescope. Near twins in aperture, these neighbors atop Kitt Peak are a world apart in design. A comparison of the two telescopes is given.
