A Taub-NUT-like metric with torsion has been discovered by McCrea (1984) within the framework of the Poincaregage field theory. While this metric is axially symmetric, however, the torsion is SO(3)-symmetric. The corresponding solution is obtained through the use of an additional electric charge. Attention is given to the question as to whether the strong gravitational potential involved can be linked to the microscopic properties of matter.
