We propose a 150 ks (~ a binary period) HETGS observation of LMC X-4 at a median-to-high flux state to facilitate several independent science goals: (1) to study the physics of the companion wind feeding the disk, (2) to study the disk atmosphere and putative wind causing the super-orbital variation, and (3) to study small angle scattering of the X-ray halo to diagnose ISM grain properties (the line-of-sight position, size distribution and density of grains) in the LMC.
