Hartmann Test: Telescopes

Scientific paper

The Shack Hartmann tester the authors describe here was developed for routine use at the Cassegrain focus of the CFHT in conjunction with on-going efforts to improve the imaging performance of the telescope. Since this instrument represents the first attempt at designing a "universal" focal plane tester, it incorporates several optional configurations which can be quickly interchanged at the telescope. The stellar and reference Hartmann spot arrays can be imaged separately without intervening optics at the telescope focal plane, or can be imaged simultaneously through a beamsplitter. Knife edge images of the pupil can be taken. There is provision for mounting a point diffraction interferometer, as well as a means for obtaining direct stellar images.
