The dependence of the solar-wind speed (V) on the heliographic latitude is investigated on the basis of published satellite observations from the period May 1976-August 1977. The relationship of V (in km/sec) to the latitudinal angular distance (lambda) of the earth from the magnetic neutral line (computed from observed photospheric magnetic fields) is found to be V = 408 + 473 sin sq lambda during the period analyzed. No dependence of V on the heliographic latitude of the earth is detected. Tables and graphs of the data are provided.
