During the balloon flight of a solid state detector, Hp(Ge), actively shielded by a minimum thickness of 12.5 cm of Na I, some sixty background lines have been observed in the energy range 50 keV to 4 MeV. The origin of ≡50 of these lines has been established. A catalogue of the lines is presented and the presence of members of the three naturally occurring radioactive series is demonstrated.
