A simple model is presented for a five-dimensional Kaluza-Klein monopole with confined scalar field. The model consists of an interior region described by the Sorkin, Gross and Perry monopole solution, and an exterior region whose four-geometry is that of a Reissner-Nordstrom magnetic monopole, embedded in the Kaluza-Klein vacuum with constant internal radius. By postulating that the two regions are separated by a thin boundary layer, it is possible to use the Gauss-Codazzi formalism to place stringent constraints on the effective stress energy of the boundary layer.
