The 1967-1976 trend of a 24-variate planetary ionospheric index derived from monthly medians of the virtual height of the F-layer is studied. The main part of the records reveal a reasonably smooth and apparently periodic oscillation superimposed on a longer-period trend which appears correlated with the solar cycle. There is a strong seasonal modulation and some longer-period variations of an as yet unexplained origin.
