The triggered formation of massive stars in supershells can provide vital insights into the mysterious process of massive star birth, and may also have important implications for galactic star formation rates. We request 15 hours to perform the first search for 6.7-GHz methanol masers in the 'Carina Flare' - a rare example of a Galactic supershell with a significant mass of associated molecular gas. Recent ATCA HI mosaicing has revealed a wealth of substructure that evidences the interaction of the ISM with a central energy source, and moreover, the supershell shows signs of ongoing intermediate/massive star formation in its walls. 6.7-GHz methanol masers are accepted as one of the most effective tracers of massive star formation, and are likely to detect objects missed by conventional infra-red surveys. Maser detections in the Carina Flare molecular clouds would constitute firm evidence of massive star formation along the rim of a superbubble, and provide vital information on its scale and distribution, as well as its relationship with structural features in the shell walls. This first detection experiment has the potential inspire a wide range of follow-up studies.
