Terrestrial resources of 3He are too limited to support a significant D-3He power program. In the present paper, two other possible near-term 3He sources are briefly reviewed: breeding and lunar mining. Two prime approaches to breeding are considered, namely, semicatalyzed D-breeder/D-3He satellite systems and plants operating on the DD-3He cycle. Lunar mining is viewed as a possible alternative to breeding for near-term terrestrial plants, but a major contributor to long-term uses of fusion power for space exploration.
