A map of the 3H concentration in the lunar soil is constructed for the visible lunar hemisphere. The map is calibrated using a correlation between the 3He concentration and the [TiO2 7 Is/FeO] parameter (the ratio [Is /FeO] specifies the maturity of the lunar regolith) found by Taylor (1994) from the laboratory measurements of the lunar rocks. The distributions of the TiO2 concentration and the regolith maturity Is/FeO are derived from the results of the optical survey of the lunar visible hemisphere in four spectral ranges (0.42, 0.65, 0.75, 0.95 microns). We divided up the effects of the content of the major chromophoric elements in the regolith and its maturity on the optical characteristics of the lunar surface. The highest concentration of 3He is observed in the western regions of Mare Tranquillitatis. An inverse nonlinear correlation is found between the 3He concentration and the thickness of the regolith layer determined from radar data. The total amount of the 3He per unit surface area of the lunar the regolith is mapped by correlating the maps of the 3He concentration and the regolith thickness. This map makes it possible to estimate the amount of 3He, which can be extracted from 1 m2 of the lunar surface. The basic types of lunar rocks according to a combination of the 3He concentration and the regolith thickness were mapped from the results of a cluster analysis of the corresponding correlation diagram.
