We present 3D MHD solutions of the magnetosphere by using observed plasma pressure profiles along the Sun-Earth axis and boundary conditions based on the Tsyganenko '96 field model. The solutions are numerically computed in the closed-field region using an improved version of our MHD code MAG-3D [Cheng, GRL, 1995] and contain 3D magnetospheric magnetic field configurations and current system including the ring current, cross-tail current and field-aligned current distribution. We discuss the change of 3D magnetic field and current structures under different IMF and solar wind conditions through changes in plasma pressure profiles as well as in the boundary conditions. In particular, we discuss how the field-aligned current distribution responds to these changes, and how thin current sheets may appear in the near Earth magnetotail during disturbed magnetospheric conditions.
