MERLIN observations at 408 and 1666 MHz, and European VLBI observations at 4990 MHz of 3C 245 are presented, as well as optical spectroscopy with the 200-inch Hale-telescope of the associated quasar 1040 + 123. These, and related data, suggest that 3C 245 should be identified with a moderately beamed quasar, i.e., an extended, double-lobed radio source seen at an angle to the line of sight in the range 10 to 20 degrees, with emitting material moving with effective Lorentz factor in the range 2 to 5.
