Two examples of emerging solar magnetic flux are discussed which constitute evidence for the emergence of a new flux in the lower atmosphere that leads to magnetic reconnection of field lines. A 3D model of the photospheric magnetic field furnishes a novel tool for understanding reconnection in real configurations; attention is given to observational support of this account of chromospheric and coronal loops.
