We used our 3-species, 3-D, adaptive, MHD code to study the interaction of the solar wind with Mars, using a realistic 60-order harmonic expansion of magnetic field, which is based on the MGS results. We studied the influence of the remnant, crustal magnetic field on the location and shape of the bowshock and ionopause. We do not find a strong effect on the bowshock location, but as expected, the ionopause moves outward in the region of strong magnetic anomalies. We find that mini-magnetocylinders are formed, as observed by the MGS MAG/ER observations. We also calculated the trans-terminator and tailward escaping ion fluxes, and find them to be consistent with the measured values.
