The 2MASS Tully-Fisher survey (2MTF) is making use of existing high quality rotations widths, new HI widths and 2MASS photometry to measure Tully-Fisher (TF) distances/peculiar velocities for all bright inclined spirals in the 2MASS redshift survey (2MRS). 2MRS has already provided the best nearby galaxy density field, so we know where the baryons are. The local universe is the only place where peculiar velocity measurements are sufficiently accurate to compare this with the distribution of mass. In the linear regime peculiar velocities are directly proportional to the underlying gravity. Previous peculiar velocity surveys have struggled to meet their potential because of large errors on individual measurements, poor statistics and uneven sky coverage. A survey based on 2MRS will provide significantly more uniform sky coverage than has previously been available, providing a qualitatively better sample for velocity--density field reconstructions. Better coverage in the ZoA will also aid in studies of the "Great Attractor'' region. We provide a progress report on the 2MTF survey including a first look at over 300 hours of HI observations at GBT, a report on ongoing southern hemisphere observations with the Parkes Radio Telescope and a preview of a universal 2MASS Tully-Fisher relation. KLM is supported by NSF grant AST-0406906.
