Recordings in Durban of the 27 kHz integrated atmospheries level show characteristic features at sunrise and sunset. The sunrise features occur at constant times relative to local ground sunrise throughout the year whereas the sunset features occur irregularly. These observations are explained in terms of propagation by multiple Earth-ionosphere reflections after allowing for the changing physical conditions existing at the relevant ionospheric reflection points. The irregular time of occurrence of sunset features is shown to be dependent on the location of the sources of atmospheries and the time of year.
