Scientific paper

Observations of Io by the Galileo Mission's Solid State Imaging Instrument are presently compared with Voyager spacecraft images of Io acquired in 1979, with a view to mapping surface changes. Initial results indicate that these changes are due to a wide range of volcanic activities; attention is given to the volcanoes and hot spots Ra Patera, Loki, Surt and Aten, Prometheus, Marduk, and Culann.
