We request 75 hours of Parkes time to complete a search of the 6.7GHz methanol masers detected in the Parkes Methanol Multibeam (MMB) survey for associated 12GHz methanol masers. The search towards MMB sources began in 2008 June and when completed, will be the largest, most sensitive search for 12GHz methanol masers ever completed and, unlike any previous similar searches, is targeted towards an unbiased sample of 6.7 GHz methanol masers. Completion of the 12GHz search in the 2009OCTS semester presents a rare opportunity to compare many spectra of the 6.7 and 12GHz transitions from a near single epoch, allowing meaningful intensity ratios of the transitions to be determined. We anticipate that the results of these observations will allow us to further explore and strengthen the results of the data collected during previous semesters, which have allowed us to quantitatively estimate the relative lifetimes and evolutionary sequence of the different maser species for the first time. The data collected will allow us to further investigate the relative evolutionary stages of massive star formation that the two transitions are tracing and study the physical conditions that are responsible for the presence or absence of associated 12GHz methanol masers.
