Results are presented from tests of the long-term operational stability and noise distribution of the 10-m prototype for the laser interferometer gravitational wave antenna. The various components of the prototype are described and noise in laser interferometers are reviewed. The prototype consists of an illuminating frequency stabilized Ar(+) laser, two perpendicular 10-m arms, and suspended mirrors acting as test masses. The noise sources in the prototype are identified and eliminated. The final sensitivity, feedback control, and noise distribution of the prototype laser are reported.
