General relativity with spin and torsion (U 4 -theory) is discussed. Conventional general relativity (GR) and U 4 -theory cannot be distinguished with the present experimental techniques. At high matter densities and in microphysics, however, U 4 -theory gives different answers. The former is interesting in connection with gravitational collapse and the singularity theorems, the latter with respect to the quantization of the gravitational field.
