The author describes the detection of the optical counterpart of the X-ray source 1H 1752+081. This system is classified as a magnetic CV (AM Her system). Furthermore the influence of recent observations on modelling of such systems and the derived predictions are discussed. As an example new photometric and spectroscopic observations of 1H 1752+081 are given.
