It is noted that thus far the photospheric abundance of terbium has not been determined, mainly because there are no oscillator strengths (neither experimental nor theoretical) available for Tb II. A quantitative investigation of this ion is presented, based on recent hyperfine structure measurements and on semiempirical gf-value calculations for a sample of selected transitions of solar interest. It is noted that oscillator strengths have been obtained for the first time for 12 transitions of Tb II. Solar implications based on these f-values and on recent hyperfine structure data are analyzed. In particular, a detailed investigation of a weak absorption feature located around 3658 A is presented.
