Scientific paper

It is demonstrated based on an analysis of experimental data on the longperiod variations in solar ultraviolet radiation, the critical frequencies F2-region and the solar-activity index F10.7 that there is a hysteresis character to the relation between these quantities. Hence, using F10.7 in ionospheric models as a characteristic of the long-period variations in ultraviolet radiation may introduce a discrepancy of up to 20 - 30% between the calculated and measured critical frequencies of the F2-region.
