A common characteristic of the moon and terrestrial planets is an abundance of impact craters. A number of impact structures have been found on the earth. The problem of identifying the differences in crater characteristics, caused by the difference of the planetary atmospheres is seen to depend primarily on the determination of the nature of meteorite transformation in a planetary atmosphere.
