We investigate the properties of localized, fast flow channels in the plasma sheet of the LFM global MHD model. These flow channels naturally develop in the realistic magnetotail geometry of the LFM. We find their typical cross-tail size is comparable to previous observational and simulation investigations (3 Earth radii), and use a superposed epoch analysis to show the similarity between these simulated flow channels and observations of flow bursts in the plasma sheet. Going beyond the capabilities of single-spacecraft observations, we exploit the global coverage of the LFM and show that plasma sheet flow channels develop from lobe field line reconnection, and represent under-populated (decreased specific entropy) flux tubes rushing Earthward.
